Where should you build your personal brand?
๐, LinkedIn, or both โ honest take from 3 years of building.
Hey,
People ask me every week: where do I actually grow a personal brand in 2026?
TikTok. Instagram. YouTube. Substack. Threads. ๐. LinkedIn. Too many doors.
You can't walk through all of them at once. I tried. I spread thin. Posted nowhere well. Quit faster.
I've been building in public for almost three years now. Organic growth only โ no ads, no bought followers. Today: 5.3K on ๐. 16.2K on LinkedIn. A content newsletter with 1,100+ subscribers I own.
That didn't come from being everywhere. It came from picking rooms and staying long enough for trust to compound.
Pick one home base for 90 days. Go deep. Then expand.
๐ is text-first. Ship in ten minutes. Feedback same day. No camera. If you're at zero and want to learn fast by writing โ this is where I'd start. I went invisible to 5.3K here by treating it like a writing gym.
LinkedIn is slower. More B2B. Longer stories. Decision-makers in your DMs. I built 16.2K there. Stronger for trust and inbound clients โ but I wouldn't split focus on day one.
Instagram and YouTube want production. Great if you love video. Painful if you just want to write and grow a brand.
Substack and email newsletters = audience you own. I grew mine to 1,100+ by building proof on ๐ and LinkedIn first โ then plugging the newsletter where people already trusted me.
Threads? Repurpose channel. Not home base.
Personal brand rule: one platform, daily reps, clear bio, proof over time.
My pick from zero: ๐ for speed. LinkedIn if you sell B2B and you're patient. Both eventually โ never both on day one.
Open your bio. One line. Who you help + what changes. That's personal branding 101.
If you're stuck โ flip a coin between ๐ and LinkedIn. Then commit. Indecision kills more brands than the algorithm.
I made every mistake here. TikTok for two weeks. Instagram for a month. Half a YouTube script I'll never finish. All at once. All mediocre.
The only thing that moved my brand was picking one platform and treating it like a job for ninety days.
When I finally committed to ๐, the writing got better because I wasn't context-switching. My ๐ strategy became simple: post 3x/day, comment 50x/day, send 20 DMs/day. Repeat ninety days. That's how I went 3,000 โ 4,380 in one sprint โ before slower compounding took me to 5.3K organic. When I added LinkedIn later, I had proof to point to.
Organic only. No ads. Three years of daily reps. That's the boring truth behind 5.3K, 16.2K, and 1,100+ subscribers.
Here's a framework I wish someone gave me at zero:
Week 1โ4: pick platform, fix bio, post daily, reply daily. No second platform. No newsletter guilt.
Week 5โ8: study winners and flops. Double down on what gets replies. Pin best proof post.
Week 9โ12: add soft CTAs. Newsletter plug. One offer mention if you have trust built.
After day 90: evaluate. Stay or add LinkedIn. Never add because you're bored โ add because you have proof to repurpose.
TikTok rewards entertainment. YouTube rewards production. ๐ rewards clarity and speed. LinkedIn rewards depth and B2B trust. Newsletters reward ownership after attention exists.
Most beginners pick based on where their friends are. Wrong filter. Pick based on how you like to create and who you need to reach.
Hate video? Don't start on YouTube. Sell to CFOs? LinkedIn eventually โ but you can still start on ๐ to learn writing fast.
Personal brand grows where you show up daily. Pick the room. Own the room. Then add rooms.
If you're reading this and still hopping โ stop. One platform. Ninety days. Then we talk about "both."
One thing I repeat because it's true: your personal brand is proof over time, not a logo.
Almost three years building daily. 5.3K on ๐ organic. 16.2K on LinkedIn. 1,100+ newsletter subscribers I own. No ads. No bought followers. Just writing, replying, documenting, repeating.
The tactics change. The rhythm doesn't. One platform first. Clear bio. Daily reps. Weekly review. Stack proof in public. Add rooms when you have something real to repurpose.
If this email gave you one action โ do it today. Rewrite the bio. Save ten hooks. Pick ๐ or LinkedIn for ninety days. Post one teach piece. Reply to twenty people.
Education without execution is entertainment. You're building a brand, not collecting newsletters.
I still fix my bio every quarter. Still study hooks. Still reply daily. The game doesn't end at 1K or 10K โ it compounds if you stay in it.
Keep building. The curve rewards the people who stay after everyone else gets bored and leaves.
