Learn to write online (before you worry about video)
Personal brands are built with words first.
Hey,
Most people delay building a personal brand because they think they need video skills, a studio, and a content team.
You don't.
Almost every personal brand I respect online — including mine — started with writing. 5.3K on 𝕏. 16.2K on LinkedIn. 1,100+ newsletter subscribers. All words first. Camera optional.
Writing online is a different muscle than school essays or work emails. Shorter. Sharper. One idea per post. Hook in the first line. Proof in the middle. Lesson at the end.
Three skills that matter more than design:
Hooks — the first line decides if strangers keep reading. Spend five minutes on line one before you ship.
Clarity — one takeaway per post. Not three. Not a manifesto. One thing they remember.
Shipping — a rough post today beats a perfect draft in your Notes app. The algorithm and your audience teach you faster than any course.
How to practice without overthinking:
Save ten posts you admire on 𝕏 or LinkedIn. Don't copy words — copy shape. Story → proof → lesson. List. Contrarian take. Before/after.
Write five hooks before lunch. Pick the best. Fill the frame with your experience. Post.
Reply to twenty people in your niche. Writing in comments is writing practice with instant feedback.
I wasted months "preparing" to write online. Reading about hooks. Watching tutorials. Never posting. The brand grew when I went public with imperfect sentences.
You don't need poetry. You need consistency and clarity.
Authority comes from shipping in public, not from collecting certificates.
Personal brand online = repeated proof you can think clearly and help someone. Words do that job better than anything else when you're starting from zero.
Pick one format this week. Short story post. Three-bullet lesson. One contrarian line + one proof line. Write five versions. Ship the least embarrassing one.
Then do it again tomorrow.
That's how you learn to write online. Not in private. In public.
The best writers online aren't the most literary. They're the clearest. They say one thing. They prove it. They leave you with one action.
I still write ugly first drafts. I edit the hook twice. I ship anyway. That's the job.
Comments taught me more than any writing course. When a reply gets likes, I study why. When a post dies, I study that too.
Your first fifty posts will embarrass you. Post them anyway. Post fifty-one is where voice starts showing up.
Video can come later. Words build the brand first. Every platform still runs on captions, hooks, and stories — even Reels.
Practical drill for this week:
Monday — save five hooks from accounts you admire. Rewrite each with your niche.
Tuesday — write three posts using those hooks. Don't publish yet.
Wednesday — publish the best one. Reply to twenty people.
Thursday — publish second best. Study which hook won.
Friday — publish third. Log both in a simple notes file.
That's a writing gym. No course required.
Common mistakes: writing like a blog essay on 𝕏. Writing like a tweet on LinkedIn. Writing for everyone instead of one person. Hiding behind jargon because clear feels vulnerable.
Clear is the point. Vulnerable is what makes strangers trust you.
I grew 5.3K on 𝕏 and 16.2K on LinkedIn with words — not a film crew. Newsletter to 1,100+ subscribers runs on the same skill: one idea, one email, one lesson.
You don't need an English degree. You need reps in public.
Stop waiting for perfect. Start shipping daily. Stop hiding your work. Start documenting the journey — people connect with real, not polished.
Start messy. Get clear in public. That's the school. Ship today.
One thing I repeat because it's true: your personal brand is proof over time, not a logo.
Almost three years building daily. 5.3K on 𝕏 organic. 16.2K on LinkedIn. 1,100+ newsletter subscribers I own. No ads. No bought followers. Just writing, replying, documenting, repeating.
The tactics change. The rhythm doesn't. One platform first. Clear bio. Daily reps. Weekly review. Stack proof in public. Add rooms when you have something real to repurpose.
If this email gave you one action — do it today. Rewrite the bio. Save ten hooks. Pick 𝕏 or LinkedIn for ninety days. Post one teach piece. Reply to twenty people.
Education without execution is entertainment. You're building a brand, not collecting newsletters.
I still fix my bio every quarter. Still study hooks. Still reply daily. The game doesn't end at 1K or 10K — it compounds if you stay in it.
Keep building. The curve rewards the people who stay after everyone else gets bored and leaves.
