๐ or LinkedIn โ or both?
How I grew 5.3K and 16.2K without splitting focus on day one.
Hey,
The most common personal branding question I get after "where do I start?" is: ๐ or LinkedIn โ or both?
Short answer: both eventually. One first. Never both on day one.
I've been building almost three years. 5.3K organic on ๐. 16.2K on LinkedIn. 1,100+ on my newsletter. Same person. Same voice. Different packaging per platform.
Here's how I'd do it again from zero.
Phase 1 โ Days 1โ90: pick ONE.
๐ if you want speed, writing reps, fast feedback, and you're okay with a louder, faster room.
LinkedIn if you sell B2B, want decision-makers in DMs, and you're patient with slower compounding.
Phase 2 โ Days 91โ180: add the second platform.
Repurpose what already worked. Don't invent new ideas for a new room. Expand winners.
My workflow today: test hooks on ๐ โ expand the winner on LinkedIn โ plug newsletter for email I own.
๐ is the lab. Two or three posts a day. Heavy replies. Kill losers. Double winners.
LinkedIn is the classroom. Longer stories. Case studies. Proof posts. Inbound clients.
Same personal brand. Different jobs per room.
Mistake I see constantly: copy-paste a ๐ one-liner to LinkedIn โ it bombs. Dump a LinkedIn essay into fifteen tweets โ nobody reads tweet four.
Different rooms. Different formats. Same core promise.
If you're at zero today: start ๐ unless your only clients live on LinkedIn. Learn fast. Build proof. Add LinkedIn when you have something to teach โ sixty days of posts, real engagement, one result you can point to.
Newsletter comes after trust. I didn't lead with email. I earned attention on social first. Now 1,100+ subscribers because they already knew my work.
Stop lazy cross-posting. Start intentional repurposing.
Lab first. Classroom second. Email third.
That's the order that built my brand without burning out.
I didn't wake up with two audiences. I earned one room first.
๐ taught me speed. What hooks work. What dies in four minutes. LinkedIn taught me depth. Case studies. Longer trust. Newsletter taught me ownership โ 1,100+ people I can reach without an algorithm.
Same brand. Three channels. Right order.
If you're cross-posting without editing, you're not on two platforms. You're on zero โ because neither room respects the format.
Test on ๐ Monday. Expand on LinkedIn Thursday. Plug newsletter on the winner. That's my weekly loop now.
Example repurposing that works:
๐ post: "I made $0 for two months. Month 3: $223. Here's what changed." โ short, punchy, proof in three lines.
LinkedIn post: same story expanded โ what I did daily, what I stopped doing, lesson for founders building in public. Add one screenshot if you have it.
Newsletter: deeper dive โ full month-by-month breakdown for subscribers who want the long version.
Same story. Three depths. Three rooms.
When NOT to add LinkedIn: you haven't posted forty days straight anywhere. You have no proof post to pin. You're adding it because ๐ feels hard. Fix ๐ first.
When TO add LinkedIn: you have five posts that got real engagement. You know your one-sentence brand. You can expand a winner into 800 words without padding.
Both platforms reward personal brand โ but ๐ teaches you faster because feedback is immediate. LinkedIn pays you back slower with higher-trust inbound.
Respect the room. Win one. Then expand.
Almost three years in, I run both plus newsletter. But year one was mostly one room and daily reps. That's the part nobody wants to hear.
One thing I repeat because it's true: your personal brand is proof over time, not a logo.
Almost three years building daily. 5.3K on ๐ organic. 16.2K on LinkedIn. 1,100+ newsletter subscribers I own. No ads. No bought followers. Just writing, replying, documenting, repeating.
The tactics change. The rhythm doesn't. One platform first. Clear bio. Daily reps. Weekly review. Stack proof in public. Add rooms when you have something real to repurpose.
If this email gave you one action โ do it today. Rewrite the bio. Save ten hooks. Pick ๐ or LinkedIn for ninety days. Post one teach piece. Reply to twenty people.
Education without execution is entertainment. You're building a brand, not collecting newsletters.
I still fix my bio every quarter. Still study hooks. Still reply daily. The game doesn't end at 1K or 10K โ it compounds if you stay in it.
Keep building. The curve rewards the people who stay after everyone else gets bored and leaves.
